About us

O-foil (Oscillating Foil) is an innovative engineering company engaged in the development of sustainable alternative propulsion techniques. O-foil b.v pursues a sustainable business concept based on the 3-P principle of People-Planet-Profit. The technology has been developed as a sustainable and new technology for the propulsion of inland vessels. It is 50% more efficient than propulsion using conventional marine propellers and cuts fuel consumption by 33%. The O-foil is currently being used in the shipbuilding industry, but opportunities in other industries are also being looked at.

Bas Goris – Managing director

Bas Goris is the founder and managing director of O-foil (Oscillating Foil Development b.v.). He specialises in ship design and has extensive management experience within his field of expertise. Bas was trained in the shipbuilding sector (Naval Architecture at the Haarlem College of Higher Education) and spent many years working for GustoMSC and Van der Giessen-de Noord. Bas specialises in alternative propulsion techniques and he developed O-foil technology in collaboration with professional partners.

“Just look at dolphins to witness the ultimate combination of mass propulsion and high efficiency.
The principle is also used in the O-foil and that makes it so powerful.”

“I first got the idea for O-foil technology when I was a student in the late 1990s. Even in those early days, I was interested in alternative propulsion techniques. In 2002, I actively went ahead and worked on calculations. I have done extensive research and managed to get a number of experts in the field of science and technology involved. You only have to look at dolphins to witness the ultimate combination of mass propulsion and high efficiency. I used the same principle in this concept. I have absolute faith in the O-foil and I believe in the working method. It is a great example of a product that boosts sustainability. We need to persevere and get the O-foil out on the market. I think it is worth the effort as it gives me great satisfaction, and I am convinced that the outcome will be successful. Actually, the same goes for the entire team. We are all enthusiastic and passionate about the product.”

“What appeals most to me about the O-foil is the simplicity of its construction. It is a robust mechanism with a long life.”

“The moving wing is a relatively simple construction with a robust mechanism and a long life. For us it is important to have the confidence of the market. That is why we are constantly explaining our concept. I see great things for the O-foil in the future. It is a sound, sustainable construction that can greatly reduce costs in the inland navigation sector.
